Juste pour rires Muskoka… Scott Thompson

Scott Thompson, Mike Wilmot and more this summer

BY TERRANCE GAVAN – Reviews Shrike.ca – June 5 2012

Cottage country comedy? No joke.

Just down the road from the Haliburton Highlands, Bracebridge hosts a dynamite comedy festival. It began in 2008 and it’s blooming with each passing year. This year the festival is full of promise and talent.

Picture the Highlands Summer Festival but instead of actors and the written word? You get self-absorbed headliners on the naked stage fueled with equal doses of Red Bull and Jolt Cola.

It starts next week on June 16 with iconic Canadian comedian and legend, Scott Thompson. He rose to prominence with The Kids in the Hall troupe. We’ve seen him on stage just once and he was thoroughly entertaining.

That show goes at 8 pm at the Peters Players venue.

On August 10 at the Gravenhurst Opera House another very funny guy, Mike Wilmot is on stage with his Going Overboard show. Tickets are $35 and the show starts at 8 pm.

Both those shows are tagged “adult content.”

If you’re in need a juste pour rire weekend?

Don’t miss a summer solstice triple header in the wonderful Muskokas.

“Since The Cottage Country Comedy Festival was established in 2008 it has been our goal to bring the absolute best in comedy entertainment to Cottage Country by combining the highest quality performers from Canada’s new wave of comedy with top established world renowned headliners,” says publicist Tyler Morrison. ” A globally recognized multi-production experience with a variety of options to choose from for any comedy fan, the festival strives to build shows with a dynamic all killer no filler appeal.

“Our venues are intimate theatres, ballrooms, clubs, and pubs that are condusive to the right comedy atmosphere. Bringing comedians together from all over the world for a great weekend filled with laughs and a true Muskokan experience is something that gives us great pleasure and seeing the on stage results of the positive environment of the event is equally rewarding, the energy is very tangible, something that the audience can feel through the performances.

“Over the past four years the festival has expanded annually at a rapid pace and our desire to grow into new markets and make our shows easilly accessible to the many visitors during the summer tourism season at affordable prices is something that we will continue to focus on as The Cottage Country Comedy Festival becomes a household name. After three successful years The Cottage Country Comedy Festival looks forward to working with our sponsorship and media partners, friends, fans, and communities to build this new tradition of laughter as something we can all share for the future.”
