He’s home. And one of his first orders of business?
Attend a charity.
Matt Duchene, Haliburton’s Hurricane, strives at all times to give back to the community that gave so much to him.
Duchene, and I think we can all commiserate on this one, had one of those years from hell this season.
The fantastic Colorado Avalanche forward – third pick overall in the 2009 entry draft – endured a series of injuries which curtailed his playing time and numbers this year and, we can assume, all of this gave him time to ponder what’s really important.
Family, roots and friends; the constants that have dogged Duchene’s carreer path since he first laced on a pair of baby Tacks at the old Dysart Arena. His forte is his forthright commitment to accepting all of those things without any circumspect cynicism. When he needs suppport? He knows it’s there.
There’s a lesson here for us all. No matter the pitch and tenor of your life’s path. Don’t be afraid to lean on those things that got you there.
Too often young men scale the heights and forget where they started.
Not Matty Hurricane. He decided long ago to dance with the girl that brung him.
Friends, family roots. We think they sustain him today. Last year he was a sophomore on a roll. An all star and picked to play on the Canadian team in the world hockey championships.
This year, Duchene will be trying to heal both physically and mentally. Knowing just how important a role Haliburton and family plays in this young man’s success gives us cause to believe that he will find slace here in the Highlands this summer.
Starting apparently this Saturday with an appearance at the very worthy M&M charity event happening locally at the franchise right beside the Beer Store on County Road 21.
Be there. Grab a burger and bring a hat or a jersey and your favorite magic marker. Matt, we just confirmed, is going to be there from 12 to 2 PM.
The details are below. We’ll see you there. Pop some extra in the jar, won’t ya?
