Libya is on the brink of whatever freedom it can muster in the wake of a madman’s idyll

Defiant talk. Genocide. Killing your own. Posing with AK-47s. Promising a shitstorm of retribution should the people ask even for the most meager of human rights.
We know the drill.
Moammar Gadhafi is part of that prancing paradigm of chicken-shit tin pot strongmen.
Feckless guys; narcissists and raving madmen who spout rhetoric with an intuitive knowledge that seldom does all that self-aggrandizing nonchalance come home to roost.
Well you goose-steppin’ bastards, the playing field is changing. The Bolsheviks are at the door. Come to haunt the luxuriating class of diabolical dictators who used their sinecure with Machiavellian precision.
Hammer and tongs regimes are falling and there’s more to come.
To quote Credence: “There’s a bad moon on the rise.” And? Oh yes. That moon’s full and comes replete with all howling and gnashing of teeth that full moons are wont to bring. The rebels are barking at the door of the palace and the bastard that started it all is on the run.[/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”]
Just like all the other Young Napoleons from Papa Doc to The Shah.
The Ottawa Citizen reports that the last stand has been left to the Gadhafi spawn.
Of course. The spawn are just as loopy as the father. Waving shrikes armed with empty heads and a dullard’s rhetoric. They are stand-ins running interference while the magician makes a break for parts unknown. The better to hide from theInternational Courtatthe Hague, and a barrage of war crime indictments.
A poseur. A blackguard. A bastard. A goofy old man who we can only assume is succumbing to the last vestiges of some syphilitic brain-eating scourge, because like all of his many predecessors Gadhafi was blessed with a healthy sexual appetite. Henry VIII and Al Capone paid for their improprieties. So the crazy old guy is vamoosed with that half-eaten zombie’s noodle leaving the detritus to his sons. A soccer player and a playboy. Find a bunker boys. Your time has come.
Tripoli is ‘under control’ of the regime, a son of Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi claimed early Tuesday, after rebels said they had taken most of the capital and gunfire rattled the port city.
Seif al-Islam, wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity, met with anAFPcorrespondent and two other journalists, after ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo said rebel forces had arrested him.
“Tripoliis under our control. Everyone should rest assured. All is well inTripoli,” the defiant son of the Libyan strongman told the three journalists at a vacant lot outside his father’s Bab al-Azizya compound inTripoliin the very early hours of Tuesday.
“I am here to refute the lies,” he said about reports of his arrest.
Ali Suleiman Aujali with the Libyan rebel National Transitional Council (NTC) told CNN that Mohammed was apparently taken by “maybe Gadhafi’s forces.” A senior rebel source confirmed the escape toAFP, saying “Yes, it’s true, he has escaped.” The source in the rebel capital ofBenghazi, easternLibya, spoke on condition of anonymity.
But the Libyan leader’s whereabouts remained unknown, as the capital plunged into darkness after electricity supplies were turned off everywhere but his compound, and gunfire crackled around the Mediterranean port city.
He broadcast three defiant audio messages on Sunday, vowing he would not surrender and urging the people ofTripolito “purge the capital,” even as rebel forces swept through the capital and took over waterfrontGreen Square.
“The Gadhafi era is over,” rebel chief Mustafa Abdel Jalil told a news conference in the eastern rebel capital ofBenghaziafter his forces stormed the capital, more than six months after the fighting began.
He said he hoped the dictator would be “captured alive so that he will be given a fair trial.”
He had also declared that Seif al-Islam had been arrested.
Despite those reports, Seif al-Islam arrived for the meeting with journalists in a vehicle in front of his father’s building complex, which was bombed by the Americans in 1986.
As the journalists arrived for the meeting several dozen regime supporters, thinking Gadhafi’s son had come, began chanting slogans and waving the Libyan flag.
An ICC spokesman said Monday that the court is seeking Seif al-Islam’s transfer toThe Hagueto face charges of crimes against humanity.
Seif al-Islam is accused together with his father with orchestrating a plan to put down the Libyan revolt by “any means necessary” since it was sparked in mid-February.
This included the murder of hundreds of pro-freedom Libyan protestors and injuring hundreds of others when security forces shot a crowds using live ammunition, as well as the arrest and torture of numerous others.
We can only assume that by week’s end the hammer will fall onTripoli and the regime of Moammar Gadhafi.
Well, then, the real work begins.
And god help them all.
There are no templates for democracy and every step is strewn with the pock-marked craters of revolution.
We wish Libya and the people well. One thing is self-evident.
They are better without the madman.
At the helm.
