An annual arts and craft sale is nearly 50 years old.

The arts and craft sale is in Head Lake Park every year. Rails End Gallery has been at it for five decades. It's worth a peek baby. Photos and slideshow and video by Terrance Gavan.

The show endures.

But that ain’t enough in this day and age.

In order for entrenched shows to survive?

They must continually merge with the times.

They must change, grow and well? Move thru what passes for the zeitgeist.

The Rails End Gallery in Haliburton uses their annual arts and craft sale as the major generator of funds. And baby it’s grown and it has zippered itself into its niche. They have developed an identifiable product and have left the demographic open-ended. In other words they seek to appeal to a broad range of shoppers.

They achieved that this year. Returning vendors – and there are many love the show, because there’s a guaranteed sales base – are happy. New vendors have to pass muster – a screening process – and many work hard on their presentations to assure themslves a seat at the dance.

Once here, very few give up their spot.

Because Haliburton is pretty, busy and hot. We’re not referring entirely to the weather here either.

The Rails End just keep on stretching their product to accommodate the tourists and the residents. They provide a locale for local artists to deal their own wares and it’s precisely that abundance of local artists that have ensured the Haliburton Arts and Craft show with its embedded sinecure as one of the best shows in Ontario.

Great show again this year.
