Ottawa is my old home town.

This guy is from China. His name is Huan. he is a Canadian citizen. But he says he's still getting a raw deal from the Canadian Government. We do treat our immigrants with less than the appropriate amount of sincerity, respect and kudos they deserve. Huan? Says he's been targeted by our government because they feared at first that he might be an agitator. He's fought them for ten years. He voted NDP in his first election last year. He became a citizen last year. You go baby! You go. Hey your hairness. Get out to the Hill on a Friday and talk to your fucking constituents. And wear a cashmere sweater. We love to see you sweat Stevie Wonderhair. Sweat! Photo by Larry Bird. Terrance Gavan oops I did shoot this one.

As me old da used to say: “It’s where we were bread and buttered.”

I have few flashbacks when I return.

Okay.

Some flashbacks.

Working at Brewers Retail (The Beer Store) for 10 years while attending St. Pat’s College, Carleton School of Journalism (nights), Carleton University and then on to University of Manitoba. They kept hiring me back for summers even when I jumped ship for the Peg.

The Beer Store is a great place to work.

Unless you’re an alcoholic. Then you might want to consider another line of work.

But Ottawa?

It’s changed. I’ve changed.

The world’s changed.

I spoke to protesters from Somalia and one guy from China.

On the hill.

I met some young dude on a horse on the Hill. Had a chat with him about the musical ride.

I beat a parking ticket that John and I got while playing tennis one night. On Frank Street in the extended Glebe.

I went right down to City Hall.

They were very nice.

I had taken a picture.

Mapped my case, logically and succinctly.

I was polite and reasonable.

The clerk took it to the JP and he said where’s he from. She said Winnipeg and Haliburton.

Then he said something and she returned.

She stamped my ticket and said “here you go, fine revoked and enjoy your visit to Ottawa.”

Wow. Seven minutes from the time we entered the doors to the stamp.

We spent the rest of the afternoon playing tennis on Frank Street.

Thanks Ottawa. Thanks John and thanks Joe Simonsky for the meeting and the vacation.

Good to see the staffers once in a while.

Cuppa Joe is back in Vancouver.

John Ehinger I placed on a plane for Cape Town South Africa yesterday.

He’ll be shooting some pictures from the teacher’s conference from southern Africa.

He better.
