Hoop Hawks – twin wins versus Thomas A

By Terrance Gavan
The juinior and senior hoop Hawks jumped all over St. Thomas Aquinas Titans on Thursday afternoon in the Hawks’ Lair.
The senior Hawks played an outstanding game pasting the Titans – who were undermanned with only one sub – 56-33.
Juniors made a startling comeback to post a yo-yo win against an undermanned Titan squad. The 41-36 comeback was down to the startling and unprecedented play of Zach Cox, a kid who has the tools to dominate in this junior league.
Now if coaches Paul longo and Martin Gage could only convince the easygoing Cox that he’s actually a head taller than most of the kids he’s posting up against.
Cox popped 20 points in the juniors win, 10 from the charity stripe and 10 from the floor.
Cox should take away some lessons from this win. One, he’s got a nice 10 foot jumper and two: he can dominate a game if he just takes that pin to the paint. he’s got a nice touch from the charity stripe and he should think about utilizing that potent weapon.
They also serve who only stand and shoot.
They got seven points from Tanner Ballantyne and Nate Feir.
Luke Watson led all scorers with 17 points in the senior game. Jesse Lefebvre added 10 points and point guard Chris Allison nailed down 9 points with some hustling drives. Jesse Walker scored six on a pair of long range threes.
Exams now clean the sports slate for the next two weeks or so.
