Hal High wrestlers pound mats at Crestwood

Compiled – from Paul Klose

The Red Hawk wrestling team toils in semi-obscurity for most of the year.

I’m told they train somewhere within the bowels of the Hal High recreational complex, but like the Phantom of the Opera, they emerge very rarely.

But when they do make an appearance – like they did last Thursday (Jan 14) at the Crestwood Secondary School gym in Peterborough – they invariably rock the house.

“The HHSS Wrestling Team began the new year with outstanding results at the annual Crestwood Mustangs Wrestling Tournament,” said coach Paul Klose. Klose and his coaching partner Dan Faulkner have been producing stellar teams for a decade, give or take.

Klose said, via email, that, “19 Red Hawks grappled at the highly competitive event which attracted nearly 300 wrestlers from as far as Kingston.”

The Hawks are hosting the Kawartha tourney this year on February 11 and these tournaments are very important catalysts for the Hawks.
